This year, during itsCES keynote,Asusmade a number of announcements regarding its key catalog of new devices. Under itsRepublic of Gamers (ROG) brand, the company revealed its new ROG Flow Z13. As a refresh to the 2023 2-in-1 gaming laptop, the Flow Z13 supports nominal upgrades, keeping it in line with its predecessor. However, with the adoption of a new AMD Ryzen AI chip, this compact 2-in-1 device is now able to support AI-driven features.

As with virtually every new device these days, Asus is prioritizing the use of AI across all its new hardware. Thev ROG Flow Z13 starts at $1,999 and leans on a dedicated neural processing unit (NPU) to drive AI features. Asus is still maintaining a compact design for its Flow Z13, one that makes it easy to throw into a backpack or bag.

A refresh to 2023’s ROG Flow Z13. This 2-in-1 gaming laptop features a new AMD Ryzen AI chip, enabling the device to be a Copilot+ PC, capable of supporting AI functions. It also offers a 13.4-inch 2.5K ROG Nebula display, supporting 180Hz refresh rate.

Upgrades open the path for AI innovations

The 2025 model of the ROG Flow Z13 features a new AMD Ryzen processor

Asus has upgraded its ROG Flow Z13 from the 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13900H chip to the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor, making it a Copilot+ PC-supported device. The latest 2-in-1 kit from Asus also supports Radeon 8060S graphics. With an integrated desktop-class CPU in toe with an RDNA 3.5 GPU and a dedicated NPU built into a single die, Asus has developed a system that’s built for AI. The ROG Flow Z13 supports 50 TOPS of total NPU compute power. Thanks to its dedicated NPU, the device is able to handle AI queries and tasks without drawing power away from the CPU and GPU. Both aforementioned systems should continue to support high-speed access and responsiveness while playing games, editing, and handling other tasks.

It’s yet to be known exactly how effective the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor will be when coupled with the Flow Z13. When it comes to AI-generated query responses and AI image generation, the processor will be able to handle these tasks very effectively given the power. However, regarding more labor-intensive tasks, I’ll need to go hands-on with the device to gauge its usefulness.

ROG Flow Z13 features moderate design changes

An upgrade to 180Hz is a blessing for all players

As a whole, Asus is holding back a lot of design alterations for its ROG Flow Z13. After two years on the market, only a few nominal changes are being made this year. 2025’s ROG Flow Z13 features a 13.4-inch 2.5K ROG Nebula display, supporting a 180Hz refresh rate. The screen is Pantone validated with 100% DCI-P3 color coverage. The refresh rate of its screen is up a significant tick from its predecessor’s 165Hz. This should make gaming and navigation feel even smoother.

While slightly heavier than the 2023 model, the new version uses a durable CNC aluminum chassis. Despite being a fully-formed 2-in-1 unit, it feels slightly heavier than your run-of-the-mill tablet.

The device’s size and weight haven’t been altered all too much. It’s sized at 11.89 x 8.11 x 0.51-inches (30.2 x 20.6 x 1.29 cm). To help compensate for the upgrades, the ROG Flow Z13 now weighs 42.2oz (1.2kg). While slightly heavier than the 2023 model, the new version uses a durable CNC aluminum chassis. Despite being a fully-formed 2-in-1 unit, it feels slightly heavier than your run-of-the-mill tablet. There’s also a novel kickstand, capable of holding the unit upright to 170 degrees. Its RGB gaming keyboard is also removable, maintaining the look and feel of a tablet.

Upgrades to cooling and battery mean more time playing

This year’s ROG Flow Z13 makes it possible to play games for longer

Asus is leaning on the use of an upgraded battery for its ROG Flow Z13 this year. The latest device tosses away the 56Wh battery of its predecessor in exchange for a beefier 70Wh battery, promising up to 10 hours of use on a single charge. The company also claims to support zero to 50 percent charging at around 30 minutes. On average, the 2023 model only featured around seven hours of battery life.

To assist with the heating of the unit, Asus has upgraded the cooling system of the Flow Z13. This year’s model supports a stainless steel vapor chamber and 2nd Gen Arc Flow Fans. Asus claims that the device will remain quiet during more intensive operations, such as gaming. What’s surprising is that, under normal circumstances, 2023’s ROG Flow Z13 was known for maintaining cool temperatures. If this year’s model improves on that, users may be able to take advantage of the newly adopted power without fear of heating up the systems too badly.
