Over at the Bethesda press conference at E3, updates for Fallout 76 have been announced bringing human NPCs, questlines, battle royale mode and more.

Bethesda made a couple of update announcements forFallout 76, first acknowledging the rough start that the game had, but appears they have listened to the community when it comes to features. Announcing two updatesWastelandersandNuclear Winterwhich will bring a host of new content.

Wastelanders

The first free update announced comes in the form of the Wastelanders, which will include human NPCs, a new main quest, more choice/consequences, new weapons and gear. Explaining in the press conference that this will add full dialog trees, making the storyline more complete.

This also means you need to decide who’s side you’re taking, whether to join factions of the Raiders or the Settlers. Choices you make will determine the outcome of each. Both will present you with unique companions, stories and new weapons. Bethesda boldly states that “Wastelanders will fundamentally change the way you experience Fallout 76, and it’s set to arrive in fall of 2019”.

Nuclear Winter (Battle Royale mode)

Setting to amp up the competitive nature of the game more, even after addingSurvival modewhich offered a more PvP centered gameplay, a new battle royale mode will be coming with the Nuclear Winter update. Adding a 52 player last-one standing, with an encroaching ring of fire as motivation to keep moving. The mode will still allow Perk Cards and nukes as you battle it out to become the Overseer of Vault 51.

Creatures found in the Wild Appalachia will be rebalanced for Nuclear Winter, meaning they won’t be as difficult to take down, which means you can earn yourself some loot. However, killing them will alert others to your location who are in the same vicinity. Looting will allow you to pick up full sets of power armor. Bethesda describes it as:

Think of Nuclear Winter as the entire Fallout 76 experience, tightly condensed into about 20 minutes.

If you were hoping this would be a quick way to gain loot for other modes of Fallout 76 including Adventure or Survival Mode, well think again as weapons nor Perk card will not carry over to these modes.

Perks and VATS

The addition of Nuclear Winter will bring a grand total of 73 Perk cards to choose from, but 10 of these are specially used for this mode only. Three of these announced perks include:

VATS will only work with AI in this mode, you cannot target other players with them while playing this mode.

PlayStation 4

Taking part in Nuclear Winter will gain you some new cosmetics, workshop items and more by completing Challenges.

Nuclear Winterwill be able to test out during June 10th to June 17th, when Fallout 76 will be available play for free across all platforms.

Free Trial

If you haven’t picked up Fallout 76 but want to experience the title along with the new Nuclear Winter battle royale mode you can try it out fromJune 10th to June 17th for free. Nuclear Winter mode is also free for all Fallout 76 players.
