Dead Cells developer Motion Twin has announced that next year the metroidvania game will have its biggest year yet since launch.

Dead Cells fans will need to prepare themselves as Motion Twin are not done yet when it comes to new content for the challenging pixel-infused metroidvania. Next year 2023 will be “by far” the biggest year since its initial launch according to the studio. They released an updated roadmap that teased what’s on the horizon, reaching into 2023. This will mark “the most exciting year in Dead Cells history, " which is a big statement.

But the indie developer has been providing a slew of updates and DLCs with the most recent premium DLC beingThe Queen and the Sea. Most recently there was also aBreaking Barriersupdate that had a whole host of accessibility features and game setting customisation. After looking at what the team has released so far, following that statement only grows the anticipation for what will happen next for the game. They already promised back in March of this year, right around the time the free Break The Bank update was released, that there wasat least a year of content ahead.

You may have thought that the team were ready to slow down, but they are apparently ready to do the opposite according to the latest Steam post:

We’re taking a little breather from constant alpha/beta/update announcements to kill off the belief that, with the latest DLC ‘The Queen and the Sea’, we are at or near the end of Dead Cells' lifetime. We can see how people ended up thinking this, but reports of our death have been greatly exaggerated.

So this means they are still alive and kicking. The roadmap teases an “exciting year” for 2023, but winter still has a “surprise” with “new stuff” also teased for this season.

…we’ve still got plenty of life in us before our knees start to give in, so prepare yourselves for more Dead Cells content.

Dissecting this cleverly worded and humorous post leads me to believe they are just talking about continued content for Dead Cells. Stretching it further, there could be some sort of crossover as we had thefree Everyone Here update. Finally, pulling at that small thread of hope…a sequel maybe in the works? The post seems to be very much related to the current entry, but one can dream.
