Larian Studios have shared in a recent update some of the changes via theirKickstarterthat will go into effect for the development ofDivinity: Original Sin 2Definitive Edition. Bandai Namco confirmed earlier that they would be bringing the Definitive Edition to consoles on August 12, 2025.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition already an option for PC players, they can already choose between their original purchase and the newly added Definitive Edition, and can switch back to the original experience of the game if so desired.

In a developer’s update video they share some of the “thousands of changes” they have implemented for the complete edition. In terms of story, the narrative was the most criticised by fans of the game, the devs have now changed/tweaked almost 150,000 words of text and over 130,000 new words have been added along with voice lines to fix the original.

A new tutorial has been added to the game which entails a new deck and characters in the starting ship. Further work has been done to combat to smooth out and rework certain encounters adding some new surprises and new fights.

A new mode is another addition, story mode has been included which is assured to be an easier difficulty to Explorer mode. If you wish to change difficulties you can do so freely throughout the campaign. Further additions include performance improvements, musical scores and a new character called Squirrel Knight.

Those who pre-order the Divinity Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition will receive Sir Lora a mini companion you can recruit in-game. Those who own the Original Sin 2 on PC before the launch of the Definitive Edition will also receive Sir Lora.

The game has seen significant Graphical and UI improvements (including HDR support), all of which are coming to console. The developers also explained they were unable to port the Game Master mode, however, those who are looking forward to playing co-op will be able to experience split screen with two controllers.

Divinity Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition will be releasing on Xbox One and PS4 on August 31st, 2018. While PC players will already able to switch between versions. Those who already own Divinity Original Sin 2 base game on PC will receive the Definitive Edition as a free upgrade.
