Helldivers 2 is a massive success in the multiplayer community, but some folks would prefer to explore the world through an intricately crafted story. Does Helldivers 2 happen to have a standard campaign underneath it’s multiplayer tomfoolery?
Does Helldivers 2 Have A Story Mode?
For those hoping for an intricately woven tale of freedom and democracy, you may be saddened thatHelldivers 2 does not feature a traditional campaign. The stories you’ll experience will belong to eitheryou on your ownor with a group of friends, as each mission you embark upon will play out differently each time. So in all reality, there is technically a campaign of sorts here — it just writes itself while you’re in the middle of the game.
Still, the basics of a story are here waiting for you within the walls of Helldivers 2 — you and your squad will be working to drive back both the Terminid & Automaton forces in the pursuit of Democracy — and small lore drops found throughout Points of Interest can help fill in the blanks. A pure narrative experience will not be found here, but maybe the story being written is about the friends we made along the way. If we accidentally don’t kill them, we can leave that out of the story.
Will Helldivers 2 Ever Get A Campaign Mode?

The general launch of Helldivers 2 was plagued with a variety of issues — fromservers that couldn’t stay upto some bugs and glitches making matchmaking near impossible. Now that the server cap has been lifted to a rather generous 800,000 concurrent players as of the time of this writing, it seems that the team at Arrowhead Game Studios can go back to their original plan.
The original Helldivers featured a loose-narrative campaign, but a campaign nonetheless. There is hope that somewhere down the line, we’ll also receive one here — as long as it’s part of the original plan put out by the development team. There is no current word regarding a proper campaign for Helldivers 2, but we can only keep our fingers crossed that one shows up eventually.
Until that point, view Helldivers 2 as a Dungeons and Dragons campaign — one where the story you make is all your own. No two people are going to have the same experience with Helldivers 2, which helps push this already creative third-person shooter into a league of its own. While the lack of a dedicated story mode may be a shame, the memories you make within this game will resonate for years to come — and that’s better than anything I could have imagined.
