The twosome seemed thrilled to announce Darian got accepted to NYU. Karen stated that getting that admission was a big opportunity, whereas Derrico wanted her to choose whatever suitable path.
Deon was hurt Karen didn’t tell him she had applied to NYU, and the parents went back and forth on where she would study and what she would do. Even though Karen came from a caring place, it seemed like she was pushing rather than supporting. When Darian stated that school wasn’t her first priority, Karen immersed herself in the situation stating she andwomen in her lineage never got an opportunity to go to college. It looked like she was emotionally blackmailing Darian into taking the NYU deal.

In a confession, Karen expressed her shock adding that she didn’t know Darian pretended to like college to make her happy. Although Karen explained to her daughter that he understood where she came from, Darian said she didn’t want to feel pushed.
