Here, you’ll eventually wander into the main city of Bakbattahl, and not long after, you will be approached by a concerned confidant of the Empress of Battahl. How To Find The Assassin
Afterspeaking with Ser Menella in front of Flamebearer Palace, you’ll learn that an assassin has been trying to kill the Empress each time she appears in public. Despite the risk to her life, the Empress stubbornly decides to uphold the traditions of her people by publicly performing the supplication ritual.
Your job is to attend the upcoming ritual and apprehend the assassin before they strike. Due to the prior encounters, Ser Menella knows thatthe assassin has a cut on their right arm and wears their hair pulled back.
Once the ritual begins, you’ll see a crowd of people on the steps of the palace, all worshiping and doing their part of the ritual as the Empress leads it from the altar above. You’ll need to walk around the crowd and ascertain who the assassin is before the time runs out. As time progresses, Ser Menella will warn you that the ritual is nearly over, signaling when you are running out of time.
You’ll find the assassin kneeling on the steps near the middle of the group. The cut on his arm will look more like a scar, which can make it hard to see at first. If you are having trouble, be sure to turn on your lantern and refer to the image above for his exact description. Once you have identified him, simplygrab him like you would an enemy NPC or throwable item,and you will pin him to the ground.

Shadowed Prayer Quest Outcomes
If you so happen to pin the wrong person or don’t choose anyone in time, the ritual will end with Ser Menella crying out that the Empress has been assassinated. Because there is no going back from this, wehighly recommend you do aninn saveprior to attending the ritualjust in case. If you do so happen to fail, you may also immediately pause and quit out to the main menu before it autosaves. Although failure is an option to complete this quest, you definitely want to avoid it as there is no benefit to letting the Empress die.
When you do capture the right person, Ser Menella will announce that you’ve captured the assassin and the ritual will end. You’ll find yourself in the Empress’s chambers where you will receive many thanks as well as some rewards. The rewards you can expect for successfully saving the Empress include18,000 gold and 5 jasper.
