Following the reveal that the third part of director Denis Villeneuve’s sci-epic,Dune, has now been given the titleDune: Part Three, our first look at the highly anticipated sequel has now been revealed. And we hope you like sand.
Beginning with a quote from Frank Herbert’s seminal novel, the officialDuneInstagram account confirms thatDune: Part Threehas now entered production, with the first-look image teasing our return to Arrakis. A desert planet that plays a central role in theDunesaga, fans of the franchise should not be surprised to learn that the first-look image is, as the title spoils, dominated by sand dunes.

Production has begun on the next film in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune trilogy.

‘Dune: Part Three’ Is Due to Hit Theaters on June 23, 2025
While it was expected thatDune: Part Threewould be titledDune: Messiahand thus match the name of Frank Herbert’s second novel (the first novel was split into two for the live-action adaptations), it has now been confirmed that the sequel will instead follow the trend of the second movie and add a “Part Three” instead. Along with the title change, it has also been revealed that director Denis Villeneuve will once again make good use of IMAX cameras, filming certain sequences for the bigger screen.
Oscar-nominee Timothée Chalamet will return to leadDune: Part Three, with the actor having recentlyteased a major change to his typicalleading man look. Chalamet has seemingly shaved his head for his next trip to Arrakis, with the acclaimed actor seen hiding a harsh buzz cut under a hat in new images. For those who know what happens to Paul in the next chapter of theDuneseries, the actor undergoing some changes should come as little surprise.

While much ofDune: Part Threeremains under wraps, including how accurately Villeneuve will lean into the much harder sci-fi aspects of the story, it has been revealed that several major stars will join the already stacked ensemble cast.Game of Thronesand DCU actorJason Momoa will be mysteriously resurrectedfor the sequel, returning as Duncan Idaho, withThe BatmanstarRobert Pattinson also expected to jointhe franchise as the sequel’s main villain. Nakoa-Wolf Momoa will star as Leto II Atreides, the son of Chalamet’s Paul and Zendaya’s Chani, with Ida Brooke cast as Ghanima Atreides, Leto II’s twin sister. Both of whom play key roles in theDunefranchise, should things continue beyondPart Three.
