April Fools is generally a time to be weary, especially in the video game sphere. In FromSoft’s case, they dropped a new trailer for Nightreign with no jokes or comedic flourishes. With the game set to come out next month, April Fools just so happened to be the best time to start introducing some of the other heroes that will be available at the game’s launch. Some lucky few were able to try out half the roster in the closed network test held just a few weeks back, which left the other half a bit of a mystery.

Sony is in Talks to Purchase FromSoftware’s Parent Company

The Sony and FromSoftware relationship is going to reach a new level through a blockbuster purchase.

Bandai Namco dropped a trailer for Ironeye, a hero who specializes in archery, on their official YouTube channel.

Bow Down To The Bow Master

Fans first caught a glimpse of Ironeye in the initial reveal trailer for Nightreign and now we have a better idea of how he’ll play in the full game.Ironeye, as indicated by his name, will be a hero that focuses on attacking from a distance with dexterous techniques. Bows and other ranged weapons have historically been designed as sidearms in FromSoft games. While some have taken it upon themselves to commit to bow-only playthroughs as a sort of challenge run, it’s only in more recent titles have bows become more dynamic. Now it seems Ironeye will allow bow lovers to fully commit to their playstyle.

While the trailer is short, being under a minute-long, it gives a good idea of how the character will function. Despite specializing with the bow, Ironeye seems fully capable of hitting multiple enemies at once and defending himself up close. This includes being able to run and jump off walls for a slight distance as well as swerving around the enemy while using an arrow as a melee attack. He even has a unique riposte animation, shooting an arrow through a stunned enemy and then ripping it right back out.

The Night Draws Near

Still, Ironeye will likely contribute most to a party by dealing piercing blows to enemies from a long ways away. Ironeye seems to deal heavy poise damage to enemies, making them susceptible to critical hits from allies. His ultimate ability sees him use a unique great bow, lining up a single shot that attacks for a wide range. It remains to be seen if Ironeye’s skills are limited to only the standard bows or if he has unique capabilities with crossbows and great bows as well. As Nightreign focuses heavily on collecting loot in each run, Ironeye may be more dependent on good RNG than most other characters.

Fromsoft’s Souls games have been widely praised for their character customization and ability to create different builds suited curated to each player’s own style. As there will only be eight total characters to choose from, some are worried they might not find a character that suits them upon release. While DLC is planned down the line, this is still a valid concern. With Nightreign set to release on May 30, there are still three new heroes to meet to see if those worries can be put to rest.
