Welcome to another installment of a segment where we dive into oneElder Scrolls Online’smanySets, and explore what sort ofBuildsyou can make. Not only will we show you how to get the most from these Sets, but we’ll explain where to get them, what requirements there are to obtain them (if any), and everything else you could possibly want to know about them. In this article we will take a look at theThurvokun Monster Helm Setthat summons a pool of bile that does Disease Damage and also debuffs enemies withMinor MaimandMinor Defile.
Introduction to Thurvokun Set
This Set was added to the game withDragon Bones DLC. It launched on PC/Mac on 12th February 2018 and Consoles on February 17th 2018.Dragon Bonesintroduced two new Dungeons (Scalecaller PeakandFang Lair) which areNorse-themed. Thurvokun Monster Helm drops 100% of the time from the final boss of Fang Lair in Veteran mode. Shoulders have a chance to drop fromUrgalarg Chief-bane’sChest using Pledge Key.
This Set comes in all weights with randomTraits. The Light version comes with Magicka, Medium with Stamina and Heavy with HealthEnchantment. Drops are random so you will probably have to do Fang Lair and open chests repeatedly to get the weight and Traits that you want. Keep in mind that you can useTransmutationto change Traits if you wish, but you will need theSummersetexpansion if you wish to Transmute Jewelry.

Thurvokun is aMonster Helm Setthat comes with 2 Set Bonuses. The 1 piece bonus adds1206 Max Health, and the 2 piece bonus summons a pool of bile that doesDiseasedamage whenever you get damaged. Enemies in this pool receive Minor Maim (reduced damage done by 15%) and Minor Defile (reduced Health Recovery and Healing Received by 15%) debuffs. These Debuffs last for 4 secs and pool lasts for 8 secs. Disease damage on set’s tooltip can go up to623per second with maximum amount of points inThaumaturgeandMightyChampion Skills.
Proc Sets and How They Work
Proc Sets, or Sets that have “chance to apply some effect” called “Proccing” are becoming more popular in ESO and seemingly added every majorUpdate(Proc is short for: Programmed Random OCcurrence). When the conditions of the Proc Set are met the effect will trigger. However, not all Proc Sets work the same way, and some apply buffs that remain on you whether you continue to wear the Set or not. Learning how to use Proc Sets effectively is extremely important for min/maxing, especially in PvP.
An important thing to note is that Proc Sets can no longer Critically Strike or Critically Heal as ofUpdate 13(Homestead) so as to reduce their effectiveness inCyrodiil. In addition, many Proc Sets have cooldowns to keep them from being abused. When choosing a Proc Set to use, if you’re so inclined, you want to not only look at the effect, but how often you can apply it. Finding Sets with little or no cooldown is ideal, because it allows you to trigger them frequently.

What You Need To Know About This Set
How this Set works is whenever you are damaged, a pool of bile that does disease damaged is spawned. The center of that pool is on the player where he/she was standing at the time of being damaged. It does not move, it stays at the epicenter and grows in size progressively over time. The pool starts of small, and is the same size as fire circle from theSiroria Set, but then it starts spreading and in the end it is triple the size. There can be only 1 pool active at a time and it lasts for 8 secs. However, the pool will always appear after you have been damaged and if there is not one present at that time. This makes Thurvokun extremely reliable, but sometimes it can be placed in the wrong location.
Enemies caught in the pool receive the Minor Maim and Minor Defile debuffs. These debuffs last for 4 secs but if enemies are standing in the pool, these debuffs are refreshed every second. When moving out of the pool or if pool disappears, debuffs will have full duration of 4 seconds and then fall off. As long as enemies are near you, they will constantly receive disease damage and have Minor Maim and Defile applied, making this set great for PvE and PvP content. The Minor Defile effect can be also increased withBefoulChampion Skill, and with Befoul maxed out it goes up to23%Healing Received and Health Recovery reduction.

Disease Damage can apply the Diseased status effect, which isMajor Maimfor a couple of seconds, and can trigger as well from this Set (although the chance is really really low). Befoul also affects this, increasing the the reduction of healing and recovery even further. However, this is really only useful in PvP since the instances in PvE where you could benefit from it are rare. Bosses that can heal need to be interrupted anyway, so this debuff won’t do you much good in Trials and Dungeons, and reduced Health Recovery also does not have any effect in PvE.
As of theImperial City Updatein July of 2015, the proc chance from an Area of Effect DoT is1%to apply the above mentioned elemental Status Effect. If you use the Charged Trait on your weapon, this will become a3.2%chance per tick on each target, which is still extremely low, but it does give you the best chance of triggering as many Secondary Status Effects as possible.

The Set does minimal damage, and putting points into Thaumaturge and Mighty to increase set’s damage is not recommended because gains are too small, making this Set only good in hands of a Tank. You can use this with either a Stamina or Magicka Tank, because damage done in grand scheme of things is going to be irrelevant. In addition, this DoT cannot Critically Strike, making it practically useless.
Notes for PvE Players
This Set is recommended only forTanks, because it does almost everything a Tank would want: aMax health increase and debuffing enemies with damage done reduction. The only thing you have to do is taunt enemies and keep them on to make the most of it. They will receive small damage all the time, and do reduced damage for as long as they are standing in that pool. Even if you have to move out of that pool it is not an issue because of lingering effects from debuffs, and because a new pool will be created anyway after the first one runs out. Always try to remain in the pool for at least 4 seconds after it spawns so that you’re able to refresh the debuff instantly after moving. This will give you as close to 100% uptime on enemies around you as possible.
The best thing about this Set for PvE content is reliability. You can have peace of mind knowing that Minor Maim will be applied to every enemy that is near you almost 100% of the time. It is unfortunate that Defile does not play a major role in PvE, but it is still a fantastic tanking Set nonetheless. Tanks can wear any 2 sets next to Thurvokun, and there are really no restrictions or benefits of wearing additional Sets, making this Monster Helm have great flexibility.

Notes for PvP Players
Thurvokun can be potentially devastating in PvP where healing is automatically reduced by half. The problem is that pool is immovable, meaning players can easily dodge out of it, although the Defile does last 4 seconds even after doing so. To counter that apply any kind of effect that would keep them in place for only couple of seconds, such as Talons. That way the debuffs will last long enough until next pool is created.
Because this Set is much more effective when it can debuff multiple players, you would ideally look for scenarios where you will find many. This is usually during sieges or bridge battles, particularly when you are defending and can anticipate where the enemy will be. Players need to stand on flags to capture Keeps, so this Set will shine when defending there, or in doorways that have been breached.
Defile is one of the most effective debuffs in all of PvP making this Set very very good if you know how to use it!
Final Tips
Overall Thurvokun it is very reliable set in PvE, with increased effectiveness in PvP in the right situations. It can’t be used by DPS effectively because the bonuses do not enhance damage in any meaningful way. Healers, as well, should stay clear of it because pool’s epicenter is around caster, so no one would be affected.
The Befoul Champion Skill is a great addition for PvP Builds looking to use this Set, but stear clear of it in PvE content where Defile is not particularly useful. PvP players will definitely feel the healing reduction, but monsters and bosses won’t since there are usually specific mechanics involved to get around healing.
WardenandTemplartanks can use this set to great effect because they both have abilities that put Major Maim that stacks with the Minor Maim from this Set. That is total of45%damage done reduction, which is insanely good, and that is before taking Befoul into consideration. Major Maim from Warden comes withFrozen Deviceand from Templar withNova.
