Cult of the Lambis a roguelike that’s different from the usual titles that are released in the genre. Instead of focusing primarily on combat like Dead Cells, Cult of the Lamb divides player’s attention into two of its key attractions: the combat loop and cult building/farming.

7 Games to Play if You Love Cult of the Lamb

This is a list of Hardcore Gamer’s recommendations of games Cult of the Lamb fans need to play.

On top of going into dungeons and fightingdifficult boss fights, the Lamb also has to provide for their followers who it has inducted into its cult. Both of these gameplay loops are in stark contrast to each other; one is fast-paced and action-heavy, while the other is slow, deliberate grind growing crops and giving sermons. Players who still haven’t played Cult of the Lamb can kickstart their playthrough by keeping in mind these eight tips when playing the game.

8Lumberyards and Stone Mines are Temporary

Manage Your Wood and Stone Stocks

It’s easy to assume that once a Lumberyard or Stone Mine is built, resources will keep flowing forever, but that’s a rookie mistake that many players regret making. Unlike farms or worship stations, which function indefinitely, resource-generating buildings eventually collapse and disappear. Weirdly enough, players have to invest lumber to build a lumberyard and invest stone to build a stone mine. If they have used up all of these resources expecting resource mining building to keep working indefinitely, they’ll be left with no respective resource to rebuild the lumberyard or stone mine once it breaks down. And this becomes especially problematic if players have already broken down all the bigger stones and chopped down all the trees on their farm.

The smart move is to always have multiple Lumberyards and Stone Mines running at once, each built at a different point so that if one breaks down, there are others that are running and providing the resource.

7The Right Fleece Can Make or Break a Crusade

It’s Not Just For Looks

The standard red fleece is reliable, but upgrading to a different one can drastically change how the game is played. Some fleeces come with severe downsides, like the Golden Fleece, which increases the damage for every enemy defeated without getting hit but resets upon taking damage. This turns every fight into a high-risk, high-reward challenge, which might be perfect for some players but too much of a risk for others. The Fleece of the Glass Cannon, for example, completely reworked combat by prioritizing curses over melee attacks.

Knowing when to switch fleeces is essential, as some will trivialize bosses, while others might turn a regular room into a nightmare. Players who get stuck on certain encounters might just need a fleece that better suits the way they fight.

Interestingly, I never used any other fleece than the Fleece of the Lamb during my playthrough. I liked the gameplay as it was and never bothered to even try another fleece. Though trying out new fleeces would be an excellent idea if I replay Cult of the Lamb in the future.

6Cooking the Right Food Can Save the Cult From Disaster

Turn Your Followers into Cows

It’s easy to overlook cooking in Cult of the Lamb since many early-game meals feel interchangeable, but food choices can determine whether a cult thrives or collapses. Some dishes provide faith boosts, sickness resistance or even cause followers to drop valuable items, while others come with dangerous side effects like diarrhea or outright death. These positive or negative special effects will be indicated when players cook the dish. Knowing what each dish does is crucial in the initial few hours of the game where the number of followers is low, no sick bays have been constructed and any sickness could lead to death.

Cult Of The Lamb: Hardest Bosses, Ranked

There are five main bosses in Cult of the Lamb, but their difficulty levels aren’t equal.

The Grass Eater Doctrine is a game-changer, allowing followers to eat Grass Meals without penalty. Since grass is abundant in every dungeon run, this doctrine effectively eliminates food shortages, letting players focus on more important tasks instead of constantly hunting for ingredients. Meanwhile, high-tier meals like Splendid Vegetable Feast provide huge faith boosts, making them perfect for restoring order after a crisis.

Try At Your Own Risk

The ability to marry a follower is a harmless way to get a massive 30 boost in Faith, but doing it multiple times while other spouses are still alive comes with a hidden downside: jealousy. Unlike most decisions inCult of the Lamb, this mechanic isn’t just a roleplaying element, it has real consequences. Spouses will grow jealous if they see the Lamb favoring another partner, leading to sudden drops in faith and the potential for dissent.

For players who still want to marry multiple followers, rituals like Brainwashing or Faith-boosting meals can help counteract the negative effects. Alternatively, taking a different doctrine path can eliminate marriage altogether, avoiding the issue entirely. Either way, cult leaders who ignore this mechanic may find themselves dealing with a coup instead of a honeymoon.

4Death isn’t the End

Gravedigging is Allowed in Cult of the Lamb

Unlike most management sims, Cult of the Lamb doesn’t just let followers die peacefully, they leave behind corpses that must be handled one way or another. At first, it might seem necessary to build a body pit to dispose of the dead, but there are far more useful (and profitable) ways to handle corpses.

For example, the Resurrection Ritual can bring fallen followers back, effectively letting them serve the cult indefinitely. Alternatively, certain Doctrines allow harvesting bodies for resources, giving players additional incentives to run their cult with a more “practical” approach. Keeping corpses out in the open leads todisease outbreaksand faith loss, so knowing the best way to manage the dead is key to long-term success.

3Faith Can Be Manipulated Even When it’s at Zero

Gaslighting at its Finest

A cult with zero Faith seems like a guaranteed disaster, but there are last-minute saves that can turn things around instantly. The Brainwashing Ritual is one of the best examples, as it immediately locks Faith at maximum for several days, preventing rebellion and dissent.

Regular sermons are extremely important to keep the chances of followers dissenting low, but once someone dissents, imprisoning them for re-education is extremely important as it prevents them from spreading negativity, keeping faith from dropping further.

It’s always a good idea to know how to tackle this tricky situation as poor handling of it could potentially upend a cult overnight.

2Late-Game Buildings Can Automate the Cult’s Survival

A Self-Sustainable Cult is the Best Cult

By the late game, micromanaging every task becomes unsustainable, but the right buildings can make the cult nearly self-sufficient. The Refinery II speeds up crafting, while Grand Shelters prevent followers from waking up due to the weather. Even the Janitor Station, which lets followers clean up after themselves, prevents sickness from spreading.

One of the most useful is the Devotion Harvest Totem, which increases the speed at which followers generate devotion at the shrine. Since high-level followers produce way more devotion than low-level ones, this makes unlocking the final upgrades far easier. When used correctly, these structures let players focus on crusades and progression instead of daily cult maintenance.

1Your Doctrines Choices Can Change the Outlook of Your Cult

Will They Eat Grass or Eat Each Other?

Doctrine choices shape the entire cult and can create completely different playstyles. Some players prefer an orderly, peaceful cult, while others lean toward sacrifices, cannibalism andfear-basedrule. But the key is realizing that some Doctrines are objectively more useful than others.

For example, the Sustenance branch determines whether food shortages will be a problem for the rest of the game. Meanwhile, the Law & Order path affects how dissenters are handled, with one choice focusing on rehabilitation and the other allowing brutal executions. Players who carefully plan their Doctrine choices will have a much smoother experience compared to those who pick blindly. Still, a cult in which cannibalism is allowed is automatically cooler than the one that eats grass.
