Following the success ofEvil Dead Risein 2023, Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell assured fans that it wouldn’t be another 10 years between movies. Thankfully, they’re making good on that promise, as the next installment in the long-running franchise has officially begun filming.

TitledEvil Dead Burn, French filmmaker Sébastien Vaniček made a post on his Instagram account to announce that production has begun on the anticipated horror movie, which is slated to be released on August 18, 2025. He shared a picture of a clapboard with the film’s title on it, writing, “Day 1. From 93 to NZ,” in the caption. Folks immediately gathered in the comments to express their excitement, and rightfully so. Vaniček’s debut feature,Infested, garnered all kinds of praise from fans and critics back in 2023, and would go on to win Best First Feature Film and Best Visual Effects at the 49th César Awards, which is basically the French version of the Oscars.

Bruce Campbell Reveals the One Thing He Never Liked About Filming The Evil Dead

Bruce Campbell had to endure a lot while filming his Evil Dead movies…a lot of blood that is.

Thus far, little is known about the plot ofEvil Dead Burn, but it’s said to not be a direct sequelto any of the previous movies. Whether or not it features callbacks toEvil Dead Rise, Fede Álvarez’sEvil Dead, or Raimi’s original trilogy remains to be seen, but in the hands of Vaniček, we at least know that we’ll be in for one hell of a ride. He’s clearly proven himself a fresh voice in the horror genre, so it’ll be interesting to see how the French director interprets things like the Necronomicon and the Deadites in his movie.

Headshot Of Lily Sullivan

Set to star Hunter Doohan, Luciane Buchanan, Souheila Yacoub, and Tandi Wright, it’s obvious that Vaniček has a singular vision in mind when it comes toEvil Dead Burnbased oninterviews he’s given about the movieup to this point. While he’s yet to divulge any plot details, he has mentioned that he pretty much wants to assault the audience with a horror experience like no other that will leave viewers shook. Speaking with Variety earlier this year, he said:

“My goal was to craft a powerful, singular – almost personal – story that could stand on its own, while still resonating deeply within the rich, complex world that Sam has built. The ambition remains the same as with Infested: to create a visceral, sensory experience that punches the audience in the gut. I want people to feel physically drained when they leave the theater, like they’ve been through an emotional and intense journey.”

Evil Dead Burn

If that doesn’t sound like someone who has a good handle on things, we don’t know what does. From our vantage point, theEvil Deadfranchise is definitely in good hands, and for all intents and purposes, we could be about to see the best entry yet in the series. That being said, there’s more to come in the future, as another film set to be directed byThe Last Stop In Yuma County’s Francis Galluppi is also on the horizon. This bodes well for fans, given the fact that Galluppi’s neo-Western has a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, and is perhaps one of the most overlooked films in recent memory that deserves to be seen by way more people.
