Godfall, theAction-RPGdeveloped by Counterplay Games and Gearbox Publishing will release its “Exalted” Update. This will be the game’s largest update by far and will be free to all players on July 29, 2025.
Godfall to Receive Its Biggest Update Yet Titled Exalted; Will Be Free for All Players on April 7
Godfall, the action RPG looter shooter will be receiving an extremely substantialupdateon April 7. The third-person action gameannounced last Decemberthat there would be a free content update that would be bringingValorplateGameplay improvements in Q2 of 2022.
The developer blog now confirms that the update is coming early next month. Titled “Exalted”, the update will bring forth Valorplate Shards, Ascendant and Exalted Valorplates, an improved story, combat overhaul, and a new game mode among others.
Story enhancements are rather minor, as they include minor dialogue forRavennaandSoras. Orin’s brotherMacroswill also be more present in the main campaign, making the final fight more impactful. The meat of the update we will discuss below.
Valorplate Shards and the Exalted Valorplate
One of the issues we had with Valorplates in Godfall was that we wished there was a bit more customization instead of locking us into an extremely specific playstyle. We mentioned this thought in ourinitial review back in 2020. It seems now that Counterplay has heard us and many other fans and are going to make improvements.
Valorplate Shards
Introducing Valorplate Shards, which aims to make each Valorplate feel more unique and improve the moment-to-moment action. Each Valorplate will be able to unlock up to four different Shards. After players collect all of the Shards of a Valorplate, it will be upgraded to an Ascendant Valorplate and gain a second passive ability. Levelling up all four shards to the maximum possible will upgrade the Valorplate further into its final form - Exalted.
Exalted Valorplates
Exalted Valorplates are extremely flashy, as they will each have a cosmetic effect attached to them to set them apart from the rest of the pack. Oh, and they also gain a third passive ability.
Let’s take a look at a couple of Valorplates and the shards available to them. All 12 Valorplates will be receiving access to Shards.
Godfall’s Combat Enhancements and Quality of Life
The Exalted update will bring about three improvements to Godfall’scombatsystem. First off, players in Co-Op will finally be able to revive each other. No more hanging around the area while dead and waiting for your friends to finish the mission. Get up, lazy Valorplate!
Next, a feature called Knockdown 2.0 is coming to the game. This will let players have access to a sort of recovery skill. The skill will let players quickly get up if ever they’re knocked down. Less downtime and more fighting is always welcome.
Lastly, allweaponswill now be able to performTiming Attacks. These can be performed anytime after aWeapon Techniqueis used.
RealmBosses, such as theEarth Realm’sHigh Lord PhalanxarandWraith Lord Decimusare also receiving some small updates. Players no longer need a sigil to challenge them, as they only need to progress through the main story. Each of the Bosses will now have three captains roaming their respective areas. Defeating a captain will weaken its corresponding Realm Boss.
For Quality of Life, Godfall’s Exalted Update will give players more ways on how to manage their ever growingloot-filledinventory. No specifics on this were given yet. However, Godfall will also receive a loadout system. This will let players save up to three presets for each Valorplate, allowing them to save any setup that they can swap around to.
New Godfall Game Mode
Spirit Realms
Another meaty update is a new game mode being added to Godfall. Introducing the Spirit Realms Mode, an activity that can be played by up to six players. As this game mode has interactions with Spirits, it will make heavy use of the Spirit Vision action.
Using Spirit Vision will allow players to walk between the Material and Spirit realms and collect Elder Souls. These souls will be used to then challenge Godfall’s many bosses, but with new mechanics that will require the usage of Spirit Vision.
Exalted Tower of Trials
While theTower of Trialsisn’t specifically new, it will be getting updates as well. The Exalted Tower of Trials will have enemies scale up into even higher levels than before. Players can also expect to tackle multiple bosses at a time. As a reward for this, players can earn some uniqueweaponsfor their troubles.
