Geoff Keighley shares Hollow Knight Silksong development was derailed by the pandemic but getting back on track.

Hollow Knight Silksong Behind in Development Due to Pandemic

In a recent interview with Geoff Keighley on Gamespot, the Summer Game Fest curator and The Game Awards creator went over 20 questions about his personal life and favourite things concerning games. One question which popped up was about the upcoming sequel in development,Hollow Knight Silksong.

What Happened to Silksong?

It’s been some time since we’ve heard much news about the bug-inspired metroidvania sequel toHollow Knight. But Keighley shared that the studio working on the game Team Cherry, were “hit hard by the pandemic” which has caused development to slow. As for the exact state of the game, while Keighley has been checking in with the developer he doesn’t have a solid answer about where they are in their timeline.

The last interview with Team Cherry was back in February of this year with PC Gamer where co-director William Pellen shared that there would be further details about the game closer to when it’s ready to release.

Hollow Knight Silksong New Gameplay Details

By the sounds of it, we won’t be hearing anything duringSummer Game Fest 2022which takes place next week. I guess we’ll be waiting a bit longer before we see something more. Even if this is not directly from the studio themselves, it’s great to hear things are still moving forward for Silksong.

Hollow Knight and Friends

But it hasn’t been complete silence as Hollow Knight did pop up in a recent crossover with Dead Cells at the end of last year in theEveryone is Here free update. Dead Cells got the Knight’s pogo jump move, among other indie heroes joining the crossover content. It would be great to see more collaboration like this, maybe a Dead Cells crossover in Silksong? This would be cool.

You nailed it, Hollow Knight is our last guest! The Knight is a bit too shy to show his face. However he was still nice enough to let us use his weapon! And how cool is it to pogo on enemies?

Hollow Knight the prequel alsobroke its own concurrent user recordon Steam in August last year, four years after the game debuted. The title peaked at over 12,000 concurrent players which is amazing for an indie title.

What’s New in Silksong?

Details are still rather thin, thin as a spool of silk at the moment. But in case you missed itSilksongfollows a new main character, this time theHornet. She will use aBindto wrap injuries, allowing her to heal in mid-air.

But there is a limit, with a balance between increased healing and the amount of healing allowed by the amount left in the spool of silk. If she is hit while healing, the heal will be interrupted, thus wasting the precious spool of silk.

There’s also an interesting death mechanic, wherein death the Hornet will leave a cocoon. The cocoon will contain a full amount of silk which can be recovered at the opportune moment.

There will also be new tools such as the Pimpillo, a bomb that explodes upon impact, or when the fuse is ignited. You will need to use shards to forge tools and pay at the save bench to rebuild tools.

The game also received a 20-minute gameplay preview at the Nintendo Treehouse at E3 2019. It previewed new bosses, a new world to explore in the Hallownest, 150 new enemies to fight, new characters and more. Hornet also has a voice, which is a change from the silent Knight from the previous game. As she attacks and interacts with different characters, you will hear her sounds and speak in a sense.

There is no release window for the game, but hopefully, we’ll know more when Hollow Knight Silksong is nearing its release.
