Hollow Knight: Silksongwill be playable in September, but in a very unusual way. The highly anticipated Metroidvania title will only be accessible at theACMI (Australian Centre for the Moving Image)museum in Australia.

The Melbourne-based museum will be the first place where fans can experience Team Cherry’s new game.
Starting onSeptember 18, the ACMI will host an exhibition titledGame Worlds, offering a glimpse into the game’s design, artistic direction, and—most notably—the chance to play it.

Museum curatorsJini MaxwellandBethan Johnsonexpressed their excitement about hosting “one of the most anticipated indie games in the world.”
“From the hundreds of sprites that bring Hornet to life, to the logic behind the game’s toughest boss fights—and of course, the chance to play the game inside the gallery—our Silksong exhibit delves into the artistic direction and design details of the game,” they explain.

After all,Team Cherry is based in Australia, and what better way to showcase the game than as a piece of museum art—foreshadowing the critical acclaim it’s likely to receive.
Does This Exhibition Hint at a Release Date?
It’s still unclear whether the version shown at ACMI will be the final game or a demo, but everything points to a launch sometime betweenAugust and September.
One thing is certain: the rumor about an April release was a false alarm. The game is still in development, and the first details about aphysical editionhave now emerged.
It’s also expected to be adual release on Nintendo Switch, coming both to the current console and its upcoming successor. This adds to the list of updates the game has undergone recently.
Even thoughSilksongis sure to be a hit, it will facetough competitionfrom other major Metroidvania titles launching this year. Still, no matter who comes out on top, the real winners will be the fans of the genre—who now have more choices than ever.
