Overwatch 2 deployed its season 2 patch yesterday which, alongside bringing a ton of new features to the game, brought a major balance patch that changed up a lot of heroes. Bastion, Kiriko, and even Sojourn all saw some major changes, alongside other heroes getting minor changes. One character that received some sweeping changes was Doomfist, who’s been the talk of the community for some time now. But were they enough? Here’s whether the Doomfist buffs are good enough to improve his spot in the meta of Overwatch 2.
Is Doomfist Good in Overwatch 2?
Before we answer whether the buffs were good, here are the changes made as perthe Overwatch 2 patch notes for August 22, 2025:
Rocket Punch
Power Block
Meteor Strike
The Best Defense…
The changes for this patch mainly came toward his Rocket Punch, though some of the other changes are still noticeable. Take the Meteor Strike for example, which grants Empowered Punch upon landing. The Rocket Punch on its own is far better though, with better durations and damage.Related:Who is Ramattra in Overwatch 2? – AnsweredAs for how good these Doomfist buffs are, it’s a bit early to confirm but from early playtime with the hero, he’s no longer considered a troll pick and is a lot more fun as a result of the changes. One major issue with the character was his Power Block, which was incredibly easy to counter with a high damage requirement to grant Empowered Punch. Now with it granting the bonus much sooner, and the additional way to get an Empowered Punch, he can tear a backline apart provided he has a team that can support him. Given the correct circumstances, we believe Doomfist will do incredibly well from here on out. That doesn’t mean to take Doomfist in every matchup though, as with any other hero. Characters like Orisa can still dominate against him, with anti-CC and easy ways of displacing him to throw off his combo. You just don’t need to worry about him being completely outclassed by every other tank anymore.
