Assassin’s Creed Shadows was one of the better PC releases of 2025 and continued to iterate on Ubisoft’s excellent Anvil Engine. The PC version runs great, thanks to a wealth of settings to adjust. That said, there is room for improvement, especially with its ultrawide implementation and cutscene presentation.
That’s where the new patch from Lyall comes in. It adds a lot of fixes, improvements, and quality-of-life features, plus the removal of pillarboxing in cutscenes if you’re playing Assassin’s Creed Shadows at an ultrawide resolution.

Fixing the Assassin’s Creed Shadows Ultrawide Cutscenes Issue
The patch from Lyall does several things that I’ll go over, but if you’re only interested in its ultrawide fixes, then the patch removes pillarboxing from the cutscenes of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This way, your gameplay sections seamlessly blend with cutscenes, and you won’t have black bars on the sides.
Here is how to install it:
That’s all you need to do. The next time you launch Assassin’s Creed Shadows, all in-game cutscenes will be rendered without any black bars.
Here is a screenshot of a cutscene provided by Lyall with the patch enabled:

The fun doesn’t stop there, however, because this patch is loaded with features.
Lyall’s ACShadowsFix Features
In addition to fixing the ultrawide implementation, the patch comes with the following features:
You can enable and disable all these features by editing theACShadowsFix.inifile using a text editor.

I set everything to true because all the features are pretty useful.
All credits go toLyallfor creating and testing the patch. Their contributions are incredibly helpful for PC gamers, and you can learn about their work on theirPatreonorKo-fi pages. Keep an eye on the releases page of the patch and update the patch if there are more additions. Lyall is known to add features over time.

If, for whatever reason, you want to remove the patch, simply delete the files that came in the zip file.

When he isn’t spending an unhealthy amount of time in Slay the Spire, he’s probably trying out yet another retro-shooter or playing Dark Souls for the 50th time.
