Summary
The Bachelorhas consistently promised some of the most dramatic twists of all time, but after rarely having a big moment during their finale episodes,I hope they can stop overpromising drama and then underdelivering. While there have been some incredibly dramatic momentsinBachelorNation history, the most recent seasons’ finales have been considerably underwhelming. Spoiled by accounts online and predictable in nature, the finales in the last several seasons have been promised to be some of the most exciting, but have fallen flat and leftBachelorNation questioning whether the franchise is more dedicated to drama or authenticity.
WithThe Bacheloretteseason 21on the horizon, I’m wondering what the newest twist of the season for Jenn Tran’s turn as the lead will be. Despite knowing that Jenn will be authentic in looking for the love of her life while she’sThe Bachelorette, there has already been some buzz surrounding the season, calling it unprecedented in nature. Typically, the spoilers aboutThe Bacheloretteare just rolling out as the season approaches, but this time, there are stories from the lead about how the end of her season has never played out in the franchise before.

Jenn Tran Has Shared Her Season Of The Bachelorette Ends In A New Way
Now that her season has finished filming,Jenn has been doing some pressabout her journey without sharing too many details. While she’s had to keep quiet about the specifics, she has shared that the ending of her season is something the franchise has never seen before. Though Jenn has every right to share what she’s allowed to about her season, the fact that there’s already hype surrounding the finale is offputting. The season, which doesn’t debut for another month, won’t finish until early September, meaning the finale is a long way off andBachelorNation is more concerned about the premiere.
In promising that her finale is to end in a flashy, new way,Jenn has put it out into the media that her season is going to be an exciting one. It makes sense from a PR standpoint, but to me, it feel like a promise that she can’t be certain she can keep. While I hope thatThe Bacheloretteseason 21 is great, I’m not convinced that the finale will be all that unprecedented without even having seen the premiere. Jenn’s messaging make it feel like the season is incredible, but I’m not sure she can promise that yet.

Every Season Of The Bachelor & The Bachelorette Promises A Historic Ending
Each season, theBachelororBachelorettetakes on a media storm ahead of their season and throughout its run to share the messaging that whatBachelorNation is seeing is a historic event. Whether it’sThe Bacheloretteseason 19’s pair of leads Gabby Windey and Rachel Recchia, or Brad Womack’s two-timeBachelor-hood,there have been major moments inBachelorhistory that are worthy of that messaging. Some seasons, however, aren’t. While the most recent seasons ofThe BachelorandThe Bachelorettewere good in their own right, they weren’t earth shattering television - and I wasn’t interested in them being that.
WhileI believe thatThe Bachelorand its subsequent spin-offs are great from season to season, I’m not looking for them to shock me every season. Usually, when I’m tuning in forBachelorNation shows, I’m looking for two things. First, I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to watch a few hour episode of something I enjoy. The Bachelorhas everything: it’s funny, heartwarming, soul crushing, and over in a couple of hours. Second, I’m looking to be able to be part of the conversation. I want to talk about the controversial contestants and funny editing choices more than anything.

Bachelor Nation Would Enjoy The Shows More Without The Major Hype & Potential Letdown
At this point,BachelorNation shows would do well to take into consideration what their audience is looking for and what they have in a season, and then decide on whether they want to market their product for its shock factor. Personally,I think it would be smarter for the show to market itself as a comfort product. Sure, there’s always a little suspense from episode to episode about who’s going to cause drama, who’s going to cry, and who’s going home - but that can be enough.BachelorNation would be better offletting go of the dramatic narrative.
Instead, I would love to see shows likeThe Bachelorettepushing the stories of the contestants ahead of the season. Rather than learning more about the lead and how they felt going through their journey,I’d love to hear from the contestants and know more about them coming into the show. This way, viewers get to see who’s vying for the lead’s heart without the constraints of the episodes keeping people off-screen, and the lead’s authority on the contestants would hold a little more weight. Generally, I’d love to seeThe Bachelorchange up their style in the future.
