James Gunn, thanks to his time with theGuardians of the Galaxyover in the MCU, has become famous for his love of niche comic book characters. The director has received a lot of acclaim for being able to adapt their characters for a mainstream movie-going audience, and needless to say, there is a lot of speculation about how he would be doing that with the DCU.

Jonah Hex is one character James Gunn will have a lot of fun bringing into the DC Universe. Hex already had a live-action film, where Josh Brolin essayed the character’s role. Unfortunately, the character was a commercial and critical dud. A version of the character also popped up in CW-verse of DC, but the character is popular enough to get another shot at the big screen with the right director.

Taylor Sheridan would be perfect in the role of Jonah Hex

Taylor Sheridanwas brilliant in his role in Yellowstone, and would be the perfect casting for Jonah Hex shouldJames Gunndecide to go that route. Jonah Hex is a character who usually appears to belong in a Western more than a superhero film. However, the Justice League has had encounters with the characters as they traveled through time.

However, should Jonah Hex receive another live-action film, it would make more sense for the character to get an Elseworld story, similar toMatt Reeves‘ Batman films. The perfect talent to direct the film could be found inClint Eastwood, should DC ever want to shell out that kind of cash for a parallel franchise based on its own comics.

James Gunn has had a keen interest in niche characters across comics

Gunn’s love of new characters is well known among fans of the director. Nowhere is this more evident than in the films that Gunn has directed for the MCU. The line of theGuardians of the Galaxythat ended up making it to the screen was a telltale sign of the fact that Gunn knew his comic book lore deep and well.

The director has even taken the time to engage with audiences, asking them about their favorite niche and forgotten heroes over on threads, many of which he was familiar with. While there is no telling if these characters will make their way into the DCU, they still remain some of the most iconic characters that DC has had to offer ever since it was first conceived.
