Fans of both games and comic books, of which there are many, will be happy to know that bothMass EffectandDragon Agewill be receiving new comic book series next year. Popular imprint Dark Horse Comics will be publishing the stories, having published past comics in the Mass Effect and Dragon Age universes, as well as from Star Wars and other video game properties likeThe Witcher.
Mass Effect: Discovery will release in spring of 2017. Its story is by Mass Effect: Andromeda creative director Mac Walters, lead writer John Dombrow, and writer Jeremy Barlow. The series will be written by Barlow with Gabriel Guzmán on the art. Details on the story are slim but it will tie in with the Mass Effect: Andromeda video game. Discovery is part of Dark Horse’s Mass Effect Andromeda Program, which in addition to the comic will include an adult coloring book, an art book and a poster collection. You heard that right, a coloring book for adults! The coloring book will release March 1st, 2017, the art book will release March 21st, 2017 with the poster collection available in fall 2017. Based on these release dates, it may be safe to assume a release of the Mass Effect: Andromeda game in March, as artbooks tend to release in conjunction with a game or shortly after.
Dragon Age: Knight Errant first issue will release on May 10th, 2017. Nunzio DeFilippis and Christina Weir will write Knight Errant, with art handled by Fernando Heinz Furukawa and covers by Sachin Teng. Guess who’s also getting an adult coloring book? That’s right, Dragon Age is, and it’s going to be available February 8th 2017. All in all, there may not be a new game on the immediate horizon, but there certainly is new content and new stories on the way.
Comics are a great way to promote a game as well as expand upon the stories and worlds presented, and we’re seeing more of these tie-ins, such as the recentDark Souls 3comic.
