New Layoffs Announced by Microsoft
Layoffs in the gaming industry seem to be unending, and now, according to Business Insider, Microsoft has decided to implement new staff reductions affecting its security, sales, and gaming divisions.
A company spokesperson stated that this time, only a small number of employees are affected, though they declined to confirm exact figures. Additionally, it was clarified that these layoffs are unrelated to those announced last week, which targeted employees who were not meeting company objectives.

Last year was particularly tough for Microsoft employees. In January 2024, Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, announced that the company would lay off more than 1,900 workers—a reduction that impacted Xbox, Activision Blizzard, and Bethesda. At the time, Spencer described it as a “difficult” decision driven by the slow growth the gaming industry was experiencing.
However, the cuts did not stop there. In September, Microsoft announced another round of layoffs, resulting in 650 more employees losing their positions in the gaming division. Unlike the January 2024 layoffs, no studios were closed during this round.
