Nintendomakes official what many suspected (or expected) and announces on its official website a lawsuit for patent infringement againstPocketpairand its game.
The Pokémon Company Sues Palworld
Palworldis played onPC, Steam Deck, Xbox, and Game Pass, and Pocketpair plans for it to come to PS5, but first, they have to stop in court becauseNintendo and The Pokémon Companyhave sued them over patents.
As we read on their official website, the publisher of Pokémon on Nintendo Switch makes it official and mentions a lawsuit for patent infringement against Pocketpair.

It seems that Nintendo was indeed concerned, and the fact that the creators ofPalworldhadn’t received complaints from Nintendo or The Pokémon Company might now be a thing of the past.
On the aforementioned Nintendo website, it states that both companies filed the legal complaint for patent infringement at the Tokyo District Court against Pocketpair. As many may have already suspected, the lawsuit seeks an injunction against the creators of Palworld for infringement and compensation for damages. The lawsuit became public today, July 10, 2025, although it was filed the day before being mentioned on the website, and they claim that the game “infringes multiple patent rights.”

PalworldControversy
The funny thing is that months ago, the creators of Palworld themselves said that the game on Nintendo Switch “would be complicated for technical reasons.“At the beginning of 2024, we read thatNintendowas aware ofPalworld, and shortly after, even the president of Nintendo mentioned it, though without naming the game. The only response they gave regarding thePalworldcontroversy… was to crack down hard on Pokémon mods, as was somewhat expected.
“Nintendo will continue to take the necessary steps against any infringement of its intellectual property rights, including the Nintendo brand itself,” they said at the end.All “to protect the intellectual properties that have taken so much effort to establish over the years,” so we may have updates on this matter later. It seems that it’s now official, and therefore, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have sued Pocketpair; the creators ofPalworldwill either go to trial or respond in some way.
