In this article, we’ll be taking a look at the latest upcoming major update forNo Rest for the Wicked. Moon Studios dropped a huge content update back in April 2025 withthe Breach update.

This update brought massive changes to the game, adding new areas, enemies, and gear—essentially doubling the size of the game. However, not every change landed well, especially those affecting skills and combat.

Now,Moon Studiosis taking player feedback seriously and implementing major changes to address many of the pain points. We won’t be going through the full patch notes—you may check those out at the link below—but we’ll highlight the biggest changes coming in the“Breach Refined”update.

Difficulty Options

One of the most exciting additions in this patch is the introduction of difficulty options. Moon Studios created something special withNo Rest for the Wicked, blending stunning art direction and visuals to immerse players in a fantasy storybook setting, reminiscent of aBrothers Grimmtale. However, the challenging difficulty has been a major obstacle for many new players.

Withthe Breach Refined update, the studio is introducing three difficulty levels to make the game more accessible for players who just want to experience the story, while still offering options for those seeking a real challenge.

The three tiers of difficulty are called“Path of the Torn,” “Path of the Chosen,”and“Path of the Unspoken,”which correspond toeasy, normal, andhardmodes. Full details about what each difficulty level changes can be found in the patch notes, but the addition itself is a welcome one.

Fast Travel System

Another long-requested feature finally making its way into the game isfast travel. While the lack of fast travel wasn’t a major issue at launch—due to smaller map sizes—theBreachupdate doubled the size of the world, making backtracking and traversal time-consuming.

Withthe Breach Refined update, Moon Studios is introducing two types ofWhispers:Elder WhispersandLesser Whispers. Players will now be able to fast travel between any Elder Whispers they’ve unlocked, with at least one Elder Whisper present in each region by default.

Additionally, players will be able to upgrade Lesser Whispers by offering materials, unlocking fast travel to those as well. This system will eventually allow fast travel to all whispers on the map once upgraded—saving considerable time and improving the game’s flow.

Utility Rune Changes

A game-changing addition in this update is the ability toequip utility runes directly onto the character, rather than weapons.

Previously, runes likeHeal or Illuminatehad to be slotted into weapons, consuming valuable rune slots. With this change, weapon slots are freed up for more offensive rune attacks, expanding build variety and strategy.

This also means that players will start the game with a heal rune by default, allowing them to heal using focus points instead of relying solely on consumable food. This small change greatly improves accessibility and survivability early on.

Flexible Gem System

Thegem systemis also being overhauled to provide more flexibility. Players can now choose to eitherextractordestroysocketed gems—similar to how runes work.

Extracting a gem will destroy the gear it’s slotted intounlessthe gear iscommonormaster-craftedquality. In those cases, the gear remains intact. However, extracting frommagical (blue), plagued (purple),orunique (yellow)gear will destroy the item. This added flexibility encourages experimentation with different builds without the fear of wasting valuable gems.

Bow Mechanics Reworked

Moon Studios is alsoreverting a controversial changeintroduced in theBreachupdate: the bow’s use offocus instead of staminafor basic shots. This change was unpopular among players, as it felt restrictive and weakened bow viability.

WithBreach Refined, the bow will once again consumestaminafor regular shots, and combat has been rebalanced accordingly—restoring the weapon’s utility in ranged playstyles.

Combat and Quality-of-Life Improvements

Combat continues to be refined as well. One subtle but impactful change isincreased ledge protectionfor attacks and rune spells. This means fewer accidental falls while fighting enemies near cliffs—a welcome improvement for vertical environments.

These are just some of the major updates coming withBreach Refined, alongsidehundreds of bug fixes, optimizations, andquality-of-life improvements.

We won’t be listing them all here, but you can check the early preview inthe patch notes.

We’ll also link to the latest episode ofWicked Inside, where the developers provide an in-depth preview of what’s to come.
