In Road 96, you will encounter a variety of scenarios depending on the routes you take, often through hitchhiking. One recurring scenario involves finding a fuel station. This area offers multiple ways to leave, including the option to drive away in a car—provided you have the Car Keys. In this guide, we will walk you through how to locate the Car Keys at the gas station and use them to approach your next destination in your own vehicle.
How to Find the Gas Station Car Keys in Road 96
During your playthrough, you will eventually come across an abandoned and run-down gas station. At first glance, it might seem uninteresting, and you could move on to the next area. However, we strongly recommend taking some time to explore it first.
The gas station features a telephone booth with the Happy Taxi station on speed dial, a nearby bus stop, and anabandoned carthat requiresCar Keysto unlock and drive. To get those keys, you will need to do someexploring inside the gas station’s office.
As you approach the office, you will encounter Alex, who is working on his makeshift bomb. You can even spot a prototype document for the bomb lying next to him. Engage in a conversation with Alex, during which he will mention the need to find a generator nearby.
After this discussion, he willhand you a nail gun, which is already sitting on a table nearby but only becomes usable after you talk to him.
Your task is to follow the red wire running up into the ceiling and trace it to the generator. Given the size of the area, tracing the wire seems like the most practical approach for both you and Alex.
While exploring, keep an eye out for a Tyrak politician posternear the wooden, barricaded windows. If youshoot this poster with the nail gun, it will reveal ahidden safe embedded in the wall.
At this point, you can either hack the safe or input the correct code to open it. Hacking is the quicker option since finding the code requires additional exploration, and unfortunately, we did not come across it during our playthrough of this area.
Once youopen the safe, you willfind the Car Keys, which you can use tounlock the abandoned carand continue your journey in Road 96.
What to do with the Gas Station Car Keys in Road 96
Before you can use the Car Keys to drive to the next destination in the game, you will first need to help Alex locate the generator. Following the red wire will lead you to a small maintenance room outside, where you will find the generator. However, you will see that activating it requires a generator key.
The generator key is located right next to the generator, secured inside a caged wall mount that is electrified. As it turns out, whoever ran this gas station was stealing electricity from a nearby power pole and using it to charge the cage.
To retrieve the Generator Key, Alex will hand you a magnet, which you may use to safely bypass the electrified cage and extract the key without getting shocked.
Once you unlock the generator with the key, you will be able to power up the gas station. On your way back, you will encounter two Tyrak supporters near the fueling pump. Alex comes up with a clever plan to scare them off using a live wire running beneath a car. This leads to a brief but entertaining cutscene.
Afterward, you will discover that Alex has left the gas station. With everything taken care of here, the next step is to move on to your next destination.
This is the perfect moment to use the Car Keys, steal the car, and drive away in Road 96. While taking the car is not mandatory, it is a great way to make use of the time and effort you spent securing the keys earlier. Why let that opportunity go to waste?
That is everything you need to know about how to find and get the Car Keys in Road 96 and drive the car. For more tips, we recommend you read ourWhen is the Date of Attack, andHow to get Blow The Fire Trophy/Achievement in Road 96guides.
