Now that Sony Pictures andMarvelare finally joining forces on a newSpider-Manmovie, fans have been voicing their pleasure and displeasure with the news of a third Spidey reboot in 15 years.Tom Hollandhas signed on to playPeter Parker, with the studios offeringMarisa Tomeithe Aunt May role. One person we haven’t heard from yet regarding this new web-slinger is directorSam Raimi, who directedSpider-Man,Spider-Man 2andSpider-Man 3. While promoting his upcoming Starz TV seriesAsh Vs. Evil DeadatComic-Con, the director toldMTVthat he thoughtMarc Webb’sThe Amazing Spider-ManandThe Amazing Spider-Man 2were “great,” and expressed his excitement that the studios are bringing Peter Parker back to high school.
“I saw [bothMarc Webbmovies], they’re great. And I’m really glad thatMarvelis taking it to high school. I think that’s gonna be refreshing, and just like my favorite of theSpider-Mancomic-books. And I have a lot of faith that they really know their stuff. The difficulty of going through high school is so unique to a superhero. It’s unique and that’s whatSpider-Manis all about, so that they’re gonna explore that head on is very exciting.”

Tom Hollandwill first debut as Peter Parker in next year’sCaptain America: Civil War, which is currently shooting in Atlanta, before taking on his ownSpider-Manadventure.Jon Watts(Cop Car) is directing, withJohn Francis DaleyandJonathan M. Goldstein, who wrote and directed the upcomingVacationreboot, set to write the screenplay. It isn’t known when production will begin yet, but Sony Pictures has already given a July 24, 2025 release date for the reboot.
It has been rumored that the firstSpider-Manwill be the first installment of a new trilogy, which is entirely set in high school. Each movie will reportedly take place during one year of high school, with the first skipping over the origin story about how Spidey gets his powers, that was already told inSam RaimiandMarc Webb’s movies.Spider-Manwill already be an established hero, as he tries to juggle his school work with cleaning up the streets of New York.

What isn’t known at this time is if the studios plan on using Mary Jane Watson, Gwen Stacy, or both characters as potential love interests for Peter Parker. ProducerKevin Feigerecently likened the new take onSpideyto aJohn Hughesmovie, with the story featuring a brand new villain. What do you think aboutSam Raimi’s comments?
