We haven’t seen the last of Shang-Chi.Destin Daniel Cretton, who co-wrote and directedShang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, has just inked an exclusive multi-year overall deal with the Disney-owned Marvel Studios and Hulu’s Onyx Collective. Part of this deal includes an unnamed new MCU series for Disney+, and the deal also makes it official that Cretton will write and direct the Shang-Chi sequel.

The deal also allows for Cretton to develop TV projects for both Disney+ and Hulu. He’ll also be serving as a producer with his new production company, Family Owned, which he’s launching with producing partner Asher Goldstein. Their goal is to develop various movie and TV projects that “highlight the experiences of communities that have traditionally been overlooked by pop culture.“Shang-Chi 2is the only title officially announced at this time.

“Destin is a powerhouse storyteller with impeccable taste in material. As we continue to expand our roster, Destin’s unique voice will help usher in an exciting slate of content for our global audience,” said Tara Duncan, President, Freeform & Onyx Collective, in a statement.

Kevin Feige, President, Marvel Studios and Chief Creative Officer, added: “Destin is an amazing collaborator who brought a unique perspective and skill toShang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings. We had a fantastic time working together on the film and he has so many intriguing ideas for stories to bring to life on Disney+, so we’re thrilled to expand our relationship with him and can’t wait to get started.”

Just recently,Meng’er Zhang addressed the status ofShang-Chi 2, which had been rumored to be in the early works. The actress, who played Shang-Chi’s sister Xu Xialing in the first movie, admits that she didn’t have any inside information. Even so, she was excited to see what may come next for her character.

“To be honest with you, I don’t know anything. Marvel doesn’t tell us anything,” she told ComicBookMovie.com. “But, I’m so excited to see what comes next too and I can’t stop thinking about it myself. Also I ask myself those questions like, ‘What’s next for her?,’ because Xialing is such a complex character and she has so much more for us to explore and discover. Like how did she train herself in her father’s compound and how did she build the fight club all on her own in Macau and in the end credits scene, we can see her sitting on the throne and you can see Razor Fist and Jon Jon standing by her side and what are they going to do next?”

She went on to say, “Also, the sign says, ‘The Ten Rings will return,’ but what kind of a Ten Rings organization without the actual Ten Rings? You know what I mean? I think, I hope Xialing can get the rings because she’s the new leader of the organization right now and also, I don’t know if you watched the cut scenes that are on the Blu-ray and there’s a scene which is Shang-Chi apologizing to Xialing for abandoning her and that was a very emotional scene. You will also think about, ‘Has Xialing really forgiven him?,’ So, what’s next for the siblings too is really interesting to me and I am as excited as the fans, I cannot wait to find out.”

It’s not clear whenShang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings 2will be released, but there have been reports of a 2023 production for a 2024 release. This news comes to us fromDeadline.
