Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige officially confirmsSpider-Man: Far from Homeputs an end to the Infinity Saga. Feige went on to say that the highly anticipated sequel andEndgameare “essentially two pieces of the same story,” which makes perfect sense. Feige had already confirmed thatFar From Homewill be the final installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 3, but many fans were under the impressionEndgamewas the final movie in the Infinity Saga.
In a newSpider-Man: Far From Homeinterview,Kevin Feigesits down to discuss the sequel and how it fits into the MCU. Tom Holland’s Peter Parker has some big shoes to fill in the sequel now that his mentor is dead, but he seems ready to take on his new role. And Kevin Feige has put a lot of faith into the sequel to finish off this chapter of the MCU. He explains.
“We’ve been working for many years onInfinity WarandEndgameandSpider-Man: Far From Home. Those were the films that were culminating the entireInfinity Saga of the MCU. And as we were working onEndgamewe realized that the true end of the entire Infinity Saga, the final film of Phase 3, had to beSpider-Man: Far From Home, because - spoiler - we lose Tony Stark at the end ofEndgame.”
Peter Parker expects to have arelaxing European vacationwith his friends inSpider-Man: Far From Home, but we all know that isn’t going to happen this time around. Parker has had a rough few years and now it the time to show what he can do on his own. Now,Far From Homewill finish off the story that was told betweenInfinity WarandEndgame. Kevin Feige had this to say.
“Therelationship between Peter Parker and Tony Starkis so special over the five films that Tom Holland has portrayed Spider-Man in the MCU, that we needed to see where his journey went, and see how does Spider-Man step out of the shadow of his mentor, Tony Stark, and become the true hero that he was always meant to be. And it’s for that reason thatEndgameandSpider-Man: Far From Homeare essentially two pieces of the same story, and it’s not over yet untilSpider-Man: Far From Home.”
Spider-Man: Far From Homehas been getting great early reactions with more than one declaring it to be the best movie in the MCU in terms of seeming like a comic book. That is some pretty hefty praise, but the MCU has gotten into a groove over the past eleven years and they know how to weave a good story together while having it standalone and be a part of a much bigger story arc.Far From Homehas a lot of pressure to tie everything up and it seems like it has done a pretty good job.
Spider-Man: Far From Homehits theaters on July 2nd, which is only a little over a week away from now. Marvel Studios had to juggle the promotional campaigns forCaptain Marvel,Endgame, andFar From Homethis year, with each movie coming out within months of each other.
