The Mandalorian & Groguare back together again, with the production of the firstStar Warsmovie since 2019 beginning two weeks ago in late July. Blockbuster director Jon Favreau (Iron Man,The Mandalorian) appeared atD23with the film’s co-writer and producer, Dave Filoni. Together, they spoke to the crowd of 15,000 fans and screened a clip of the upcoming movie. “We’re all pretty excited to haveStar Warsback on the big screen,” said Filoni (viaDeadline). “It’s the last D23 before the movie comes out — we had to put something out.” You can see them below:

According to Deadline, “the silver Beskar metal-clad bounty hunter and baby Yoda touch fingers” in the clip. “Babu Frick also makes an appearance, flying a ship with Grogu — and the crowd went wild. There were shots of a snowy planet that looks a lot like Hoth fromEmpire Strikes Backand with huge AT-ATs to boot.”

The tale of The Mandalorian and his little Jedi pal continuing as a movie was first revealedback in January.The Mandaloriancreator Jon Favreau will return to direct the project, which he will also co-write alongside Executive Vice President at Lucasfilm and Star Wars encyclopaedia Dave Filoni. Favreau made a statement at the time, in which he declared his excitement over bringingThe Mandalorian & Groguto the big screen.

“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created. The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”

The Mandalorian Has Been a Huge Hit for Disney

Making his debut back in 2019,The MandalorianstarsThe Last of Usactor Pedro Pascal and picks up around five years after the events ofReturn of the Jedi, after the fall of the Galactic Empire, and follows a lone gunfighter as he makes his way through the outer reaches of the lawless galaxy. As well as the titular bounty hunter, the series introduced a pop culture icon in Baby Yoda, who it was later revealed is named Grogu, a mysterious, Force-sensitive youngling from the same species as Jedi Master Yoda.
