It’s no surprise thatSpider-Man: No Way Homeis this year’s most anticipated movie to be released by Marvel Studios. Starring Tom Holland,No Way Homeis studded with a stellar star cast of Alfred Molina reprising his role as Doctor Octopus from Sam Raimi’sSpider-Man 2alongside Jamie Foxx (Electro), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), and Zendaya. It is also reported that past Spider-Man villains like Sandman and Lizard will also be appearing after the confirmation of Green Goblin in the first trailer that was released. However, with only a few weeks remaining for the movie to hit the theaters, it is being reported that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have reached an impasse regarding the release of the final trailer. Surprisingly, both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, who previously played the role of the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man are the cause of this delay.

Last year,FandomWire had first reported that both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will be reprising their previous roles inSpider-Man: No Way Home. After initial speculation and skepticism, the news got traction with leaks from the sets which surely makesNo Way Homeone of the worst-kept secrets of all time. While fans are surely excited to see Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus alongside all theprevious Spider-Man villains, it cannot be denied that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield donning the suit once again ranks at the top when it comes to anticipation. Though as exciting as it might sound to include a brief shot of both Maguire and Garfield in the second trailer, it seems Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are in disagreement.

According to CinemaBlend’s Sean O’Connell, the delay for the second trailer has boiled down to the inclusion of ‘THEM‘ in the teaser. O’Connell has reported this on Twitter where he has said that “One studio wants to show THEM, and the other is very much,” followed by the popular gif Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man saying “I missed the part where that’s my problem.” Here’s the tweet:

At this point in time, it’s no secret that both Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have gone to great lengths to keep the involvement of both Maguire and Garfield a big secret. While not showing them in the trailer would surely pay off as one of the biggest surprises for the moviegoers, a brief glimpse can surely work wonders to set a new record in filling up those theater seats when the movie finally releases.
Spider-Man: No Way Homeis scheduled to release on 17th December, 2021.
