PublisherBandai Namcohas shared the fourth guardian trailer forTowa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree. Besides giving us a closer look at Bampuku and Mutsumi, it reveals an important sacrifice theme in the game and the fact a demo is now available to try out on PC (Steam), PlayStation, Xbox Series X|S and Switch.
Fight and Sacrifice
Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Treeis the most recent project by developer Brownies, who has previously worked on projects like Egglia and Doraemon Story of Seasons. The company was founded by Shinichi Kameoka (Mana series, Magical Starsign) as a means to achieve more freedom in producing new titles.
While very different from Kameoka’s designs, Towa’s immersion in Japanese culture, hand-drawn characters and painterly scenery make up a unique project. The game also features a soundtrack by Hitoshi Sakimoto of Basiscape, who has worked on multiple important Japanese RPG projects, likeFinal Fantasy Tactics,Tactics Ogre, and, more recently,Vanillaware’s Unicorn Overlord.

In the new game, players accompany Towa and a group of guardians to fight against the Magatsu forces and protect Shinju village. Part of the game’s experience revolves around using a duo composed of an attacker blessed by the power of the blade (Tsurugi) and a magic user (Kagura) when exploring the dungeon areas.
Over the past weeks, Bandai Namco has shared multiple trailers for the game, including the so-called “Guardian Trailers”, which are focused on showing the game’s main characters in action. Each video presented two of the eight companions in the game, with the new trailer finishing the rounds with the Shiba Inu siblings, Bampuku and Mutsuki. The video shows their close bonds in an animated sequence that ends with the ultimate sacrifice to purge the corruption that plagues the land.

An Early Look at the Upcoming Action Roguelite
The demo version of Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree features the initial moments of the journey so that players can become familiar with the game’s setting and overall narrative concept. It’ll only be possible to pick four of the eight fighters (Rekka, Shigin, Origami and Nishikito) to face the enemies in the prologue up to the end of the first dungeon.
Besides the battles, the demo will include Shinju Village, an area that acts as a hub world with many facilities for the players to explore and NPCs to get to know. This includes the Blacksmith, which allows players to make their own swords, and the Dojo, which allows players to test out different combat skills.
