If you’re making your way throughElden Ring Nightreign, you may notice that as you progress through and continue more runs with more characters, you’ll unlock the ability to complete Remembrances. These are small side objectives that you can complete with every character that you start the game with, but some characters will give you a nice little surprise in the form of unlocking other characters as well.

Say Goodbye to Your Custom Characters in Elden Ring Nightreign

Elden Ring Nightreign is the first From Software title since Sekiro to not allow players to create their own characters. Here’s what happens instead.

Purchase the Besmirched Frame

To unlock The Revenant, you’ll need to buy a specific item.

When playing through the game, you will want to return to the Jar Merchant in the Roundtable Hold regularly. After defeating the first Nightlord,Tricephalos, a specific item will be available in the shop. Here, you’ll want to go ahead and find an item in the Relics section of the shop, theBesmirched Frame. This will cost1,500 Murktotal from your past adventures in The Lands Between at the end of each expedition. Once the frame has been purchased, you’re able to then spot a new face haunting the halls of the Roundtable Hold.

Confronting the Phantom

Unlocking The Revenant isn’t going to be as simple as you may expect.

When the phantom appears, and you are able to speak with her, you’ll be instantly transported to a new instance of the map. Much like the prologue, where you start in a secluded section of the map, you’ll be put in a separate area at a set level with minimal healing flasks. In the arena, you’ll be met with a challenge from an NPC named Night Idol. She is going to summon three separate enemies to aid her in her fight against you. Before you engage with the phantom in the Roundtable Hold, you should consider which character to bring to the next stage. Executor is a great counter to her for the entire fight due to his cursed sword. He can parry almost everything in the fight and power up his sword to deal massive damage.

Fighting The Night Idol

After confronting the phantom, you’ll be met with a minor boss fight.

Being patient is the key to this fight, as you’ll be under pressure from three of the four enemies in the fight at a time. You can ignore the largest of them for a time, but you’ll need to prioritize the smallest mob. This enemy is going to constantly run at you and keep you under pressure while Night Idol casts a set of area-of-effect spells that will do a ton of damage. There will be columns on the left and right of the arena. If you position yourself behind one and keep it between you and Night Idol at all times, you are guaranteed to keep the middle area of effect spell away from you, since it will get stuck on the column.

When in the correct position, you can draw in two of the three summoned enemies and take them down. Once the two enemies are down, you’ll most likely have the Night Idol coming in to fight with melee weapons, while the third summoned enemy will start using a ranged beam spell. The third enemy is fairly easy to dispatch, while Night Idol will be somewhat evasive. Be patient, dodge her spells and melee attacks, and she can be defeated quite quickly once her summons have been taken out of the fight.

Elden Ring Nightreign

After the Night Idol has been defeated, you will then have access to using the Revenant as a champion to fight your foes. She’s a unique character in the varied cast that we already have, with her ability to summon the same enemies she used to fight you. you’re able to summon one at a time, with a unique set of fist weapons that act as claws and a Finger Seal that allows for healing. Revenant is a caster with S-Rank Faith and B-Rank Arcane and Intelligence stats. Strength and Dexterity are both C-Rank as well, enabling you to use a variety of weapons while you embark on adventures with her as your character of choice.
